Abbott Street forge operate from a 19th Century forge building on the National Trust’s Kingston Lacy Estate. The Forge was out of action since 1945 until 1997 when we took over the premises. The Forge still houses much of the original equipment, most notably the brick forges and the old anvils. The Forge has featured on BBC television notably ‘Escape to the Country’ and BBC South Today.
Our approach and customers
Using the best blacksmithing tools and techniques which have largely remained unchanged for hundreds of years, we are able to undertake restoration commissions, and to advise on period designs. We regularly undertake work for Grade I and II listed buildings, as well as in Conservation Areas across Bournemouth, Poole, surrounding Dorset areas, Wiltshire and Hampshire.
Our customers include the National Trust and other conservation bodies, as well as a wide range of private individuals and Town Councils.
